Uber Acquires SpotHero to Expand into Parking Services

Uber has announced plans to acquire SpotHero, a digital parking marketplace, aiming to enhance its app’s functionality by integrating parking reservations. While financial terms of the deal are undisclosed, the acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals. SpotHero facilitates advance parking sales across more than 13,000 locations throughout the US and Canada, allowing drivers to reserve spots in garages, lots, and valet services.

This development is particularly relevant for commuters and frequent travelers. As Uber aims to become a comprehensive transportation solution, integrating SpotHero’s services could streamline trip planning for users who prefer to drive, rather than rely exclusively on ride-hailing. The direct integration could ease the process for those attending large events or needing parking at airports, making the app an even more versatile travel companion for drivers in North America.

In the current market, parking apps vary significantly in features and pricing. Alternatives to SpotHero include ParkWhiz and JustPark, which offer similar reservation capabilities but may not encompass as extensive a network as SpotHero’s. Users may also consider traditional parking services that do not require app integration but might offer on-site conveniences. Price points for parking reservations often range between $10–$30 per day, depending on the location and service quality.

This acquisition could appeal to Uber users who value the convenience of having multiple travel needs addressed within a single app. However, for those who don’t frequently drive or find parking reservations unneeded, particularly urban dwellers who rely predominantly on public transport or rideshares, this feature may hold little relevance. Budget-conscious consumers may also find better value in standalone parking apps, which may offer more competitive rates for specific requirements.
