Introducing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5: Qualcomm’s Leap into the Future of Tech

Qualcomm’s forthcoming system on a chip (SoC) is officially dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5, not the previously speculated Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This new flagship, according to a leading tech source, emphasizes a significant leap from Qualcomm’s earlier offerings, skipping directly to a fifth generation designation. Internally marked as model SM8850, the chip’s Chinese nomenclature is anticipated to be the “Fifth Generation Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition.”

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 integrates Qualcomm’s proprietary Oryon CPU and is crafted using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, featuring an N3P process node and an Adreno 840 GPU with enhanced capabilities, including an increased GPU cache of 16MB. Maintaining an eight-core design, the chip comprises two super-large cores alongside six large cores, aiming to achieve Antutu benchmark scores surpassing 4 million. This positions it as a formidable contender in the Android segment, heralded as the most powerful mobile chip to date.

In addition to the Elite Gen5, Qualcomm is set to release a secondary flagship chip, the SM8845, in the year’s second half. This chip is expected to be branded as the Snapdragon 8 Gen5, sharing a lineage with its Elite counterpart.

The official unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 will occur during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2025, scheduled for September 23-25 in Hawaii. The event promises to be a landmark occasion for tech enthusiasts and industry watchers.
