On September 12, Loongson Zhongke announced promising developments surrounding its Loongson 3C6000 processor. This new-generation CPU is recognized for its cost-effective advantages, solidifying its position in the market as favorably received by clients.
In addressing the potential for mass sales of the 3C6000 and the earlier released 2K3000 chips in the latter half of the year, Loongson highlighted strong import activity from various manufacturing companies. With several application tests planned to assess typical use cases, the company anticipates that these processors will be available in limited quantities by next year.
The Loongson 3C6000, introduced in June, represents a significant leap in CPU technology, designed to cater to a wide range of computing needs, including standard computer processing, intelligent computing, storage solutions, industrial control systems, and workstations.
Notably, this CPU employs the Dragon instruction system, which has been painstakingly developed in China. This innovative approach eliminates reliance on foreign technologies or supply chains, reinforcing national self-sufficiency in critical tech sectors.
Hu Weiwu, a prominent researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology within the Chinese Academy of Sciences, confirmed that the performance benchmarks of the 3C6000 are on par with mainstream market products expected to dominate in 2023 and 2024. He emphasized that this CPU is entirely indigenous, having been developed without any foreign technical authorizations.
The unique architecture of the 3C6000 allows for impressive scalability. It can comprise a single silicon wafer with 16 cores and 32 threads, utilizing Loongson’s proprietary Long link port technology. This design enables multi-silicon wafer packaging, which can yield configurations such as 3C6000/D (3D6000) with 32 cores or 3C6000/Q (3E6000) boasting up to 60/64 cores and 120/128 threads.
As the global semiconductor landscape continues to evolve, the emergence of homegrown innovations like the Loongson 3C6000 paints a promising picture for China’s tech future.
