Recent findings from a survey by a leading smartphone price comparison platform revealed significant insights into user behavior and expectations regarding the much-anticipated iPhone 17. Over 60% of respondents indicated their intention to purchase this latest model, with battery life emerging as the principal motivation for upgrades.
The survey, conducted in August with over 2,000 American iPhone users, aimed to gauge sentiments around device loyalty and upgrade intentions. Remarkably, 68.3% of current iPhone users expressed plans to upgrade to the iPhone 17 series. This figure surpasses the 61.9% who intended to switch to the iPhone 16 series prior to its release in 2024.
According to insights gathered, 38.1% of planned upgrades are expected for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. Meanwhile, 16.7% of users are looking towards the standard edition, and 13.5% are interested in the newly introduced iPhone 17 Air. Interestingly, only 3.3% of respondents indicated a desire to wait for a folding screen version, which Apple has yet to unveil.
Satisfaction levels among current iPhone users remain high, with 72.9% rating their experience better than in previous years. However, 27.1% of participants voiced concerns that Apple may have “lost its competitive advantage” over rival smartphone brands.
Battery life has emerged as the decisive upgrade factor, with 53% of survey participants emphasizing its importance. Other factors driving the decision to upgrade include enhanced designs and new features (36.2%), screen upgrades (34.3%), improvements to camera quality (28.1%), and advances in artificial intelligence and software optimization (7.1%).
Anticipation for the iPhone 17 series is building, as Apple is set to hold a product launch event on September 10 at 1 a.m. Beijing time. Notably, this series will replace the previous Plus model with the new Air variant.
In terms of specifications, the standard iPhone 17 will be powered by the A19 chip, while the Pro models will feature the more advanced A19 Pro chip. Prospective users can expect up to 12GB of RAM, a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, and the pre-installed iOS 26 system, setting the stage for a robust user experience.
