Record 4.88 Million Cross-Border Passengers at Hengqin Port: A 76% Surge in Study and Travel Trends!

Surge in Traveler Numbers at Hengqin Port: A Summer to Remember

Hengqin Port, located in the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, has experienced an unprecedented surge in traveler numbers this summer. According to recent reports, the port welcomed a wide array of visitors, including study groups, family travelers, and Macau residents, as well as tourists crossing the border for leisure and work.

Record-Breaking Traffic Numbers

Statistics from the Hengqin Border Inspection Station reveal that from July 1 to August 29, a staggering 4.88 million passengers crossed through Hengqin Port, alongside 580,000 vehicles. This marks a significant increase compared to previous years—a 76% boost in passenger flow and 46% growth in vehicle traffic year-on-year. On average, the port processed 81,000 passengers daily, a substantial rise from last year’s average of 46,000.

During the summer period, approximately 3.16 million individuals transitioned between the mainland and Macau. Of these, around 870,000 traveled using personal or group tourist visas, representing about 27% of the total passenger count. Notably, the number of travelers holding Qing-Ao tourist visas surged, with 25,000 such visas issued, along with 67,000 "one visa and multiple trips," reflecting increases of 25% and 103%, respectively, since the year began.

Consistent High Levels

The head of the first duty team at the Hengqin Border Inspection Station noted that this summer’s record-breaking passenger numbers have kept traffic consistently high, especially during weekends. This influx has made it essential for the station to ensure efficient operations and smooth customs processing.

Enhanced User Experience

To tackle the challenges stemming from the heightened travel statistics, the relevant authorities have taken proactive measures to enhance the passenger experience. They have upgraded the bio-gathering equipment at the express customs channels and created additional waiting areas for travelers. This aims to streamline the customs clearance process for cross-border commuters, particularly those attending school in the cooperation zone.

Furthermore, to assist travelers better, a passenger consultation service desk has been established within the terminal lobby. This service provides essential information regarding business inquiries and customs clearance guidance, helping travelers navigate their journeys more efficiently.

Conclusion

The remarkable growth in traveler numbers at Hengqin Port this summer highlights not only the burgeoning interest in cross-border travel between Macau and the mainland but also the enhanced operational readiness of the border inspection authorities. With ongoing improvements aimed at boosting efficiency and convenience, Hengqin Port stands poised to accommodate even more travelers in the future. As cross-border experiences become increasingly popular, the region’s tourism landscape is set to flourish.

In summary, the summer of 2023 has been a transformative period for Hengqin Port, setting a new benchmark in terms of traveler engagement and operational success. Whether you are a student, a family on vacation, or a commuter, Hengqin Port is shaping the future of cross-border travel with its commitment to excellence.
