Cyberpunk 2077 Tops Switch 2 Sales: 75% Opt for Physical Copies, Says CDPR

IT Home reported on August 29 that foreign media outlet VGC highlighted a significant trend regarding “Cyberpunk 2077” on the Nintendo Switch 2. According to CD Projekt, over 75% of the game’s sales on this platform are from physical versions.

“Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition” launched alongside the Switch 2 console in June. Although specific sales figures weren’t officially disclosed, data from Circana indicates that the game has emerged as the top-selling third-party title on the Switch 2.

CD Projekt emphasized the importance of maintaining high quality while expanding their audience. They expressed satisfaction with the simultaneous global release of “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition” on the Nintendo Switch 2, noting its successful ranking among the best-selling third-party games on the platform.

Among the initial game lineup for the Switch 2, Cyberpunk 2077 stands out as a prominent third-party offering, particularly because it rarely adopts the Game Key Card format, which has sparked some debate. Game Key Cards provide digital activation codes without any physical game data, a point of contention for some players.

Most third-party games on the Switch 2 utilize Game Key Cards, with only a few exceptions. This trend is attributed to developers opting for 64GB cassettes, which are only available in one specification.

Nintendo’s recent financial report revealed that the Switch 2 sold over 6 million units within just seven weeks of its release. Additionally, the game’s first major release, “Malio Racing World,” sold 5.63 million copies in its first month, nearly matching console sales.

According to Circana, the Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed 2 million units sold in the United States, marking a 75% faster sales rate compared to the original Switch during the same timeframe.
